Rv Propane Water Heater Black Soot

So i took the new rv out with the family and at the end of the overnight stay at the campground still getting used to rving i saw there is a black stain on the outside of the water heater.

The water heater was only on gas for a few hours the next morning i noticed the side of the tt was covered in soot. Build up or debris can get caught in the burner disrupting the proper flow of gas.
